What is the On Grid System?


On Grid systems are connected to the grid, so whenever there is surplus energy generated by sunlight, it is stored in the grid, generating discounts in your account regardless of the time of day.

 

If the generated energy is not enough, the power grid compensates for what is missing. At the end of the day, you pay the distributor for the electricity consumed in the electricity grid, less what was produced by you.

What is the Off Grid System?


Isolated or Off Grid systems are characterized by not being connected to the mains.This system is used for local and specific use, directly supplying the appliances that will use the energy.

This solution is widely used in remote locations that are not connected to power distributors. Here, the energy produced is stored in batteries and not in the electricity grid. These batteries ensure the supply in periods without sun.

Advantages of each system


Connected systems have a great advantage over isolated systems because they do not use batteries and charge controllers. This makes them about 30% more efficient and also ensures that all power is used, either locally or at another point in the network.

 

However, in Off Grid systems, there is the use of batteries that can store the energy surplus. However, this system is not recommended for urban areas and, if the ultimate goal is to obtain discounts on the energy bill, the system connected to the network is more appropriate.

 

Which is the best choice?


It depends on your needs. The On Grid system is most recommended if you want to feed your entire company. However, if you do not have a connection with a distributor or have problems in the supply and want to be independent of the service of the utilities, the Off Grid system is more appropriate.

 

It is important to consider that fully supplying a property with an off grid system has a high cost, besides needing ample space to store the batteries.
